I remember ten years ago, when I was 6, in Year 1, sitting in a Beverly Hills cinema with my mum and dad, watching Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone for the first time. There weren't a lot of people, and this was way before Beverly Hills cinema renovated. I'm going to be honest: I didn't really want to watch it. But my mum and dad were insistent that I did.
Two hours and thirty two minutes later, I was walking out of the theatre, amazed. I was enchanted with Harry and Hagrid's amazing friendship, admired Dumbledore, petrified of Lord Voldemort, and little did I know that the next ten years of my life would be shared with them.
Last year, the 18th of November very nearly counts as one of the most touching and memorable days of my life. I say this with the greatest sincerity: Year 11, you are honestly the best grade ever. I am so honoured and blessed to be a part of this family. That evening when we were all sitting there, occupying 2/3 rows, it was a magical feeling. It's been wonderful laughing, crying and obsessing over the Harry Potter journey. Mum and Dad; thanks for making me go to Beverly Hills Cinema and sparking my Harry Potter journey. To everyone else in the world who has cried, laughed and taken the Harry Potter journey: may the rest of your life be as magical as it has been for the past ten years, and keep up the legacy.
This isn't something that's going to die down. The books aren't going to gather dust on our bookshleves. It's going to be something where we pass the books down onto our children and grandchildren, where the bedtime stories we tell our children will be the Three Little Pigs and The Tale of the Three Brothers; it'll never stop.
Thank you Joanne Rowling. You truly brought magic back into a world where we needed it more than ever. You have no idea how many people in the world are so thankful for what you have created, and we are forever in debt to you.
In four days, the world stops to observe Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. I can't freakin' wait.
